Sumi Gous Artist

Sumi Gous lives in Cape Town, South Africa.  The continent’s beauty and vibrant cultures with their rootedness in nature flows into her colourful canvases.  They inspire and invite engagement with something deeper.  Her stance is that the artist's receptiveness to creative imaginary from within is directly related to the imperative for self-development.  This reflects in the trajectory of her artistic work.

Sumi studied and qualified in 1991 as a graphic designer.  From 1992 she worked professionally for the South African Broadcasting Corporation.  She also did freelance illustration work for local well known magazines.

From 1994 she lived and worked close to the Kruger National Park where her love for nature began to thrive.  On weekends she roamed the Park and other beautiful wild areas nearby.  During this time she made semi-naturalistic and fantasy works, using different mediums.

In 1997 Sumi moved to the Western Cape and resided in the Winelands.  She started to design packaging for some of the leading wine producers in the industry.  During 2004 she started to experiment with mosaics and modern paintings, some of them commissioned.  Her design scope widened, including product packaging like chocolate, olive oils, music etc.  She also started creating real time digital art.  She worked together with leading brands like Nissan South Africa, Delaire Graff Estate Wines and Fortune MPW USA.

Since 2018 her animated art has become a recognized individual visual language. She enjoys working with clients on specific themes or stories by means of creating art that speaks to them.

Sumi is a co-founder of Analytical Typology, a Jungian study group based in Cape Town, South Africa.
